Lucky Number Slevin
Claudia PuigLucky Number Slevin, one of the odder titles around, will get under your skin with its stylish production design, slick dialogue and offbeat characters. This pop-culture-infused mistaken-identity thriller ultimately grabs hold and beguiles, though its convoluted plot takes a while to get going.
The film opens brutally, with excruciating scenes that require a strong stomach. Then the action lulls with Bruce Willis in obscure storytelling mode.
It isn't until Josh Hartnett gets on the scene and the twisting and turning plot gets underway that the film really kicks into high gear. Hartnett, whose charisma is firmly established with this film, plays Slevin Kelevra, one of those names that will stay with you the way The Usual Suspects' Keyser Soze did...
Kansas City Shuffle
The film opens with 2 bookies being shot at the races, after a tip off about a horse. Then we are believed that Sleven finds his wife in bed with another man, he is then bannished from his flat, and so goes to stay at his friend Nicks apartment, but outside he is mugged and gets his nose broken, all in all I would say he is having a bad day.
Things then go from bad to worse, when 2 men turn up looking for Nick and mistaken Sleven for him, they take Sleven to the Crime Boss, where Morgon Freeman tells him he is owed £96K, or alternatively he is to kill the Rabbi's son, the rival crime boss from accross the street, he then arrives back at the flat and 2 more chaps turn up and cart him off to see the Rabbi, he is then told he owes £30k to him, now when all this is going...
This does the business..
This film is what cinema (and home cinema) was made for, it has everything, great casting, interesting plot and a few nice twists. It really zips along. This is a classy piece of film that you will want to rent... then buy, to have in your collection. You can't lose - this should be your special friday night film. Give it a go You will not be dissapointed.
