Local Hero
This comedy dramatic art staunchly established Bill Forsyth as a crucial British film-maker. It's a lyrical, almost mystical, story that follows the attempts of Texas oilman Burt Lancaster and his minion Peter Riegert to get up an sequestered Scottish village in right to build an oil refinery, without bargaining on the village's integral perseverance of community. Local Hero manages to sidestep the unswerving whimsy that over-egged Forsyth's aforementioned excursion, Gregory's Irish colleen: the scenery is refulgent, the performances funny, ironic and moving (Lancaster, in particular, is superb), and Forsyth brings a sure directorial touch.
Local Hero
Reminiscent of individual Ealing comedies, extraordinarily Whisky In profusion and The Maggie, this enterprising comedy is at the end of the day not eccentric for its well-known length.
Local Hero
"...LOCAL HERO does the matter in a scheme that is exhilarating to examine..."
