Plot Summary:
|
The fourth screen adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic 1869 novel, LITTLE WOMEN, is given a hard-nosed and rounded treatment away screenwriter Jo Swicord and Australian steersman Gillian Armstrong, whose perspective emphasises a feminist note. The testimony chronicles the lives of a mam and four daughters and their daily toils during the Civil Encounter in the truancy of their establish, a Splice army chaplain. Winona Ryder (in an Oscar-nominated show) is vibrant as Jo, the least everyday of the sisters. Christian Bale captures the ebullience of their neighbour, Laurie, whose company Jo... enjoys so much it seems inevitable that they command end up together. Kirsten Dunst (at age 12) gives a overheated doing as the younger Amy, proving drawn more willful than Jo; Claire Danes brings a mysterious otherworldliness to Beth. LITTLE WOMEN, touchingly rendered, has myriad smart moments and an appropriately moving visual sense to accompany the portrayal. Susan Sarandon and Gabriel Byrne also comet in this well-crafted film.
