Plot Summary:
|
KANSAS CITY Private is a hard-hitting film noir starring John Payne as Joe Rolfe, an ex-con who's trying to repeat resolve with a hassle as a deliveryman for a florist company. Unfortunately, a unite of thugs (the sinister trine of Jack Elam, Neville Mark, and Lee Van Cleef) led by a criminal mastermind (Preston Foster) have arranged a bank robbery using a van that looks well-deserved like the undivided driven about Rolfe--and the deliveryman takes the fall for the heist. This leads to Rolfe's search for the natural thieves, a trail that leads to Mexico and an unexpected love affair with the... clique commandant's daughter (Coleen Gray).

Director Phil Karlson turned ended a horde of commendably courageous, modestly budgeted felony films and this is a good criterion. Its ingenious story (about Rowland Brown and Harold R Greene) has John Payne's ex-convict become a detective to exhume an ex-policeman turned criminal out. It features the innovative touch (charmed from the 1950 Brink's keep off-up) of bank robbers wearing grotesque masks to hidden their identities. Someone had a strict sensitivity for casting as the three accomplices are played by a youthful Lee Van Cleef, Jack Elam and Neville .
