Hollywood, desperately looking for mod variations on the inharmonious-cops working, briefly lit upon the concept of the buddy-doggy movie. Fortunately fit non-dog lovers, it was a genre that proved to be experiencing as much staying power as some Christmas puppies. This the same, produced in the same year as the Tom Hanks comedy Turner and Hooch, has James Belushi as the detective who is reluctantly partnered with a surly canine in a bid to crack a -smuggling loop. Belushi is as affable as ever, but even he looks a little embarrassed close to the affair, markedly the mawkish ending.
