Just Friends
An unrequited high-school crush brings Ryan Reynolds back to Amy Smart for a romance that's more sour than sweet
Having buried Gwyneth Paltrow and Mike Myers under a ton of latex in Shallow Hal and the Austin Powers series respectively, Hollywood now does the same to Ryan Reynolds in this rather acrid comedy from Cruel Intentions director Roger Kumble. Okay, so Ryan Reynolds doesn't spend all his screen time wearing a fat suit. But he sports it in enough scenes to hammer home the point that in the movies, fat means funny.
Or it would do if there was anything particularly amusing about this malodorous romp. Its brand of tasteless, knockabout pratfalls will be familiar to everyone who's seen a Farrelly brothers comedy or - more likely - on...
just bloody brilliant!!!
This film had me laughing from start to finish. ryan reynolds is very funny in this film! and i'm gonna say right now when u see this film watch it right until the end, don't walk out the cinema or turn the dvd off because there is a classic screen after the credits that will have u laughing for days. all i am say is u will never hear the song ''i swear'' by all-4-one the same way again. amy smart doesn't give the best performance of her career, but anna faris is brilliant - completely different to her scarey movie character or when she was in friends. i recommened this film - not only to watch once - but watch it again!!!! basic story for u, ryan plays a fat kid turned fit. but even then he doesn't get what he wants - if he knew what he wanted! anna...
Just Friends
Mike ClarkYou'd think comic actor Ryan Reynolds wouldn't show his face so soon after last month's top billing in the miserable restaurant farce Waiting ...
And for a while in Just Friends, he doesn't - or at least not exactly. Reynolds spends the early and wobbliest parts of this high school aftermath farce encased in John Candy-jowls makeup to help establish his character as the prize dweeb of the senior class.
Worse, he's in platonic hell with a class cutie played by Amy Smart, a sweetheart with a slight "tease" dimension. Flash-forward a decade, and the bulk of the movie deals with the now slimmer and womanizing Reynolds (a music exec) returning home to snowy New Jersey with a trampy no-talent rocker in tow. She (Anna Faris) is an ugly work assignment who kee...
