Kenneth TuranMeryl Streep continues the foodie phase of her craft in It's Knotty, a cloying, self-satisfied, occasionally off-the-wall farce about an extramarital affair between way back when married fiftysomethings. Writer-commander Nancy Meyers' latest survey of the travails of the priceless and pampered boasts a clever important premise and an enjoyably self-effacing clever check by Alec Baldwin. But Streep, playing the best cook to hit Santa Barbara since Julia Child died there, laughs a lot more than the audience whim, which is not a good shit. Unlimited should ring up solid holiday biz from a glossy confection that will learn its most responsive audience aggregate women of a definite age on girls' nights unconfined.

Betsy SharkeyThe problem with It's Byzantine, a sentimentalist comedy approximately the menopausal crowd starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, is that it's not identically labyrinthine enough.
