Plot Summary:
|
In Search of a Midnight Smooch is a rollicking witty travel and tender overseas supposing love, coupling, and new novel in Los Angeles on New Year's Evening. Wilson (Scoot McNairy), a twenty-nine-year stale guy who has very recently had the worst year of his life, is fresh to Los Angeles, has no pass‚, no concrete plans and every intention of locking the doors and forgetting the mould year ever happened. That is until his best friend, Jacob (Brian McGuire), browbeats him into posting a personal ad on Craig's List. When Vivian (Sara Simmonds), a strong-willed chambermaid reprimand decided on ... being with the just man at the stroke of midnight responds, a chaotic, at times comical, sometimes touching journey through the black and hoary streets of L.A. begins. Writer-director Alex Holdridge has followed to the letter the dubious advice that people should write about what they know, and in this case it's paid off. What he knows about is dating, twentysomething navel-gazing and the angst of waiting around on the threshold of 30 for your star to finally rise. In a year or two, if this likeable, lo-fi love story is anything to go by, he will have forgotten much of what he knows about the latter.
