Homicide
David Mamet's third outing as writer/director is a tough look at tribal twist interior and cottage the policemen force. Much of the look and caress of the illustrate derives from the chic of Sidney Lumet, who directed Mamet's prepare of The Verdict in 1982. Mamet's roots as a playwright are evident in some scenes, which are overwritten, but there's no denying the power of the whole piece as Joe Mantegna's Jewish cop investigates murder and a numb cartel, and finds organised anti-Semitism and an underground Jewish guerillas manoeuvre. Its conclusions are windswept, eventually reaching them makes for gripping viewing.
