	Plot Summary:	Michael Cimino's sad anti-western based on events in 1890s Wyoming. Sheriff James Averill attempts to conserve settler farmers from wealthy cows interests, and also clashes with a hired gun, Nathan Champion, to the chambermaid they both be captivated by, Ella Watson. Both men find themselves questioning their roles in the furious row between in clover landowners and European immigrants attempting to build untrained lives on the American frontier, which culminates in a hard-hearted systematized battle.

Had "Heavens Exit" been released in 2009 nearby 20th Century Fox it would have been a casket-intermediation smash and would take up the at the Oscars. But because it was released beside UA in 1980, it went to go to four hours lengthy, it flopped because people were not perceptive for overlong movies back then, compared to nowadays these paradigm of movies with upper case output values and extensive running times are the norm rather than the blockage. eg. Titanic, Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Prize Guard.

It's a beautiful looking movie, but it goes on forever and spends long stretches on things that never advance the plot. Still, if you can make it ,see it once just to say you have seen it!

Called the greatest disaster ever filmed. This film is a legend, it sparked the studio take over which squeezes directors today. The film cost 60 million in1980 (today that's 160 million) and died horribly at the box office making only 3 million. This film ended United Artist run as a major studio after it was bankrupted by the picture.

The director Michael Cimino never lived up the shame and though he had directed the deer hunter never recouped from this career killer. It is not hard to see why though it is a long boring movie. Even though the original cut was the one which was revered. The longer version just squeezes the heck out of nothing still.

The back story behind this unmitigated belly flop of a disaster is chronicled in a book titled Final Cut and is a must read. The behind schedule production is legendary. The decision to shoot scenes only at dusk so the film would have a distinctive hue. The death of numerous horses sparked the NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED HERE tag. And Cimino was finished along with United Artist. A cautionary tale for the ages.
