The previous review of this film was very vague as to the content of this performance. Ultimately its because it's so traditional and the synopsis above makes for an accurate description which is a man who has a gambling problem (Christopher Plumber) and gambles his daughter at a card game. He loses to Edward Fox, who plays the rogue in this film.
Things take a turn for the worse when a third party takes interest in his daughter and 'saves her' from the evil clutches of Edward Fox. The third party has a mother (Diana Rigg) and it very very very jealous of her son taking an interest in Helen Bonham Carter.
Performances by Edward Fox and Diana Rigg in particular are truly excellent and must surely be the best performances I've ever seen. This film albeit not ...
Romantic Sunday
I thought this was sad but great! A real sunday afternoon film, while the husband's out with the kids, and you fancy a bit of old fashion romance, chilvary, and gallantry, not forgetting a good bottle of wine; perfect!
