What a Load of Pants!
Well some bloke says he really likes this film from his childhood, well that's fair enough, but it is absolute rubbish, the producer and director should be ashamed of themselves, even for the early 80's. The injustice to Jack Palance is astonishing, the male lead has pretty much never been seen again, along with a few of the other actors. The only redeeming quality is spotting the likes of Warren Clarke and Annette Crosbie in the cast. Thank goodness for the advances in film-making techniques and God bless the Lord Of The Rings!
Tongue in Cheek Joy
Hawk the Slayer is a very typical 80's fantasy with a rubbish storyline and even worse soundtrack and that is it's beauty. From the start the special effects will leave you chuckling (when Hawk's sword returns to his hand by the miracle of showing him throw it away backwards) and the directing throughout is laughable, with some fight scenes having around 30 eye shots before getting in to the battle.
I only watched it the first time because I read a review in a TV guide that described it as 'utter tosh', and although that it may be there is a certain charm that B-movie lovers and fantasy fans will adore.
