Plot Summary:
|
They call him "Sizeable" Harry Sweeney. At 52, the Vietnam veteran has kept his rugged good looks. Every one likes Harry, an electrician nearby buying who loves to peach but in the interest of some senses he never lets anyone get too climax. He's been divorced for a desire time, has a son whom he scarcely ever sees, and, although he's promised in a long-term flirtation with the waitress at the diner, seems in the cards to remain . One era, Harry gets a call from a former Fleet buddy, Tom Kelly, whom he hasn't seen in some thirty years. On his deathbed and terrified of flourishing to Hell, Kell... y convinces Harry to seek forgiveness on his behalf from a pal they betrayed long ago, David Kagan. At first, Harry wants nothing to do with Kelly, Kagan or the remnants of his murky defunct. But contrition and memories bear a cryptic grasp on Harry, and he finally relents, driving down the East Seaboard to title on his valued comrades. As he confronts the three other men snarled in a dream of-ago crime, he observes how each human beings has dealt with his own guilt. The rugged Rheems hides behind righteous moral posturing and economic success. The savant Porter has divorced himself from the nasty implications of his gone in the military. Condition-verbal Gephardt has turned to Jesus. Though they've all grown older, it is unclear whether any of them have in reality develop salvation. As the way stretches out before Harry, two mysteries calibrate unfurl: what really happened on that night thirty years ago, and the inscrutableness of what it has meant to Harry and how it has shaped his life ever since.
