Plot Summary:
|
Of all the screen versions of the famed 1881 gunfight, this one, starring Burt Lancaster as Wyatt Earp and Kirk Douglas as Doc Holliday, doubtlessly has the highest testosterone quotient. Focusing on the friendship between the forthright, responsible sheriff and the chance-taking, consumptive gambler, it suggests that their relationship is based on this opposition of qualities. Wyatt's not fit for man true love with gambler Laura Benbow (Rhonda Fleming) and Doc's feud with Johnny Ringo (John Ireland) closed the affections of restricted madam Kate Fisher (Jo Van Flotilla) augment to the nervous... ness above-named the final face-off. When Wyatt's brothers, Tombstone lawmen, ask for his help in evening the odds against Ike Clanton (Lyle Bettger), his brothers, the McLowerys, and Johnny Ringo, Doc decides to join his Maecenas. After Wyatt gets to municipality, he quickly puts a crimp in Ike's steers-rustling activities, which leads the road-agent to set him up conducive to assassination. A scramble-up leads to Wyatt's youngest buddy, Jimmy (Martin Milner), getting killed in Wyatt's place. Doc tries to talk him over of revenge, but the enraged lawman will be suffering with none of it, and the vista is set in compensation the historic final gun battle. This solid, well-made Western is hoisted at near the fine screenplay by novelist Leon Uris and the charisma of the two stars, as warm-heartedly as an outstanding suporting shy, including Dennis Hopper, Jack Elam, Lee Van Cleef, Earl Holliman, and Kenneth Tobey

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
It is the old story of honest lawman Wyatt Earp (Lancaster) and boozer and gambler Doc Holliday (Douglas) lining up against the Clanton clan of cut-throats and cattle thieves. The tale of Tombstone has been told umpteen times in cinemas, and this is one of the best versions, only really surpassed by John Ford's masterful My Darling Clementine. It helps that the two main protagonists are so enigmatic and chiselled of jaw, while Sturges manages to pace the film impeccably, piling on the action as he propels it towards the inevitable showdown.
two stars shine
In truth this is on the disapointing side,it is slow but worth watching for Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas both at the peak of there careers.Kirk is doc holiday a cold killer but with weaknesses, whilst Burt is the cool Wyatt Earp. The story based on true events will hold the attention of western fans non western fans may lose attetion at times.Joanne Fleet is good in a suporting role but its a mans film.
