Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
A warm hearted social satire with a dazzling (and funny) double act from Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell
Monroe first revealed her comedic skills as Anita Loos's not-so-dumb blonde, Lorelei Lee, seductively expounding her mercenary philosophy in the song 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend'.
She and busty, dark-haired Dorothy (Russell), who first burst on to the screen in spangled red costumes declaring that they're just 'Two Little Girls from Little Rock', board a liner for France. Dorothy, who resists her friend's advice to 'find happiness and stop having fun', romps with a team of muscle men who are plainly more interested in their own bodies than hers.
In Paris the enjoyment diminishes, though Monroe's allure remains undimmed.
Go Girls!
If you like Marilyn, don't miss this one, she is at her dazzling best, looking great and proving again that although she herself had many doubts about it, she is really a very talented actress. Jean Russell is wonderful too, it's a great double act.
