Ooh, slimey!
Hopefully this is the rare uncut version of the film, as I acquired it recently and really enjoyed Stuart Gordon's attempt at what is, essentially, an alternative 'Re-Animator' (another film he helmed). This one involves a special machine that can open up an alternative universe. Look out for the monster who seems a clear influence on the beast from 'Slither'. Jeffrey Combs is wonderful here as the scientist character, a role he plays to perfection in the 'Re-Animator' films. There's some gross stuff here too, though I'm not sure how much a cut version would trim away to secure a rating. Regardless, this isn't Gordon's best work as a director but it is highly recommend and worth checking out. Aside from 'Slither', who makes films like thi...
Overlooked classic
This is a forgotten gem, from the same Director/Actor duo that gave us Re-animator and is in much the same vein, with great black comic moments. Been waiting years to get it on DVD, my VHS is wearing thin.
If you liked Re-animator, you'll like this as well.
Jeffrey Combs plays the mad scientist again, as he does so well, striving to create a resonator to stimulate the pineal gland in the brain, supposedly to give us a 'sixth sense'.
Obviously it all goes wrong, opening up an alternative universe, you need to watch it though, reviews don't do it justice.
The pace (and gore) never let up, one of my all time favourite horrors.
From Beyond
A patchy but appealing comedy from Altman, which compensates for its shortcomings with a supremacy twist. Goldblum heads the list as the bisexual Bruce, who finds himself in an unexpected love triangle with his partner Bob (Guest) and the distraught Vigilance (Hagerty). Meanwhile Conti and Jackson show up as a marry of sex therapists whose advice only sends everybody further off the rails. Set in New York, but curiously filmed in Paris, this is a wryly amusing bawling-out that never unreservedly tips into the all-out farce you fancy exchange for but offers heaps of colourful characters and setpieces.
