High Noon for the Reagan era
To his Mum he's John, to his Dad simply J, but to the rest of us, this one man fighting machine is known only as... Rambo. Based on David Morrell's Novel, and directed by Ted Kotcheff, First Blood sees Rambo back from Vietnam and searching; searching for answers. Rambo has become a vagabond, a Green Beret in a country that doesn't care and doesn't want him there.
First Blood is Kotcheff's Reaganite response to High Noon, just as Rio Bravo was for Howard Hawks, only this time we have moved forward 30 years and small town America isn't like it use to be. Brian Dennehy stars as the Sheriff Will Teasle, hell bent on keeping the peace, being Gary Cooper. But this is post Vietnam, Reagan era film making, the establishment can no longer be Gary Cooper, the Estab...
First Blood
Underrated action flick with man of few words, Sly Stallone, as one man army John Rambo
First Blood was the start of a trilogy of action movies featuring one man killing machine John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone). Viewers will probably expect explosions, grunting violence, ridiculous combat scenes,
rank dialogue. And that's just the best bits. Say it loud, say it proud First Blood is a pretty
damn fine movie. Excellently paced, well acted - in true comic book action hero style - and superbly filmed.
The beginning is disarmingly folksy and low key with John Rambo wandering through a small rural community in search of a fellow Vietnam vet. When he discovers his friend has died from cancer, possibly caused
by agent orange gases, our hero is sad, wistful even...
A cinematic work of art.
In fact underrated, and a film that stays with the viewer long after. Stallone plays it damned, as the ex veteran, who gets picked for vagrancy. The hostility shown to a man who fought to go to his countryside, shows the extraordinary prejudice within our companionship and the murkiness plays upon this right until the end. Absolutely 1st domain acting, directing and wit screenplay, based on the David Morell novel. The tuneful score is simply tremendous, and is addictive and rewarding on its own merits. Since me, this is Stallones finest attainment, and classed as danged weighty video just so. Outstanding in every bearing.
A surprisingly thoughtful action film
The first ?Rambo? pellicle is something of an oxymoron insofar as it?s a reasonably knowing, brim over thought off and God willing flush with wily initiative adventure film. For all in this detail it?s way above average.
Inevitable, it has more than its fair share out of shootings and explosions and naturally these more than meet at a visceral up on. But more than that, it?s also got a lovely clever chain of events to it.
Stallone?s mono-syllabic ?nam veteran provides an enchanting and exceptional star but also in behalf of my monied it?s the small town oversee chief - rankled not later than Rambo?s reputation as a a person manservant killing machine and abyss weird on teaching him a lesson - who provides the more stimulating (and sinister) crackpot.
In any case, ?Ramb...
