Plot Summary:
|
In first century Rome, two undergraduate friends, Encolpio and Ascilto, remonstrate about ownership of the boy Gitone, divide their belongings and split up. The lad, allowed to choose who he goes with, chooses Ascilto. Only a sudden earthquake saves Encolpio from suicide. We trace Encolpio through a series of adventures, where he is long run reunited with Ascilto, and which culminates in them helping a houseboy kidnap a hermaphrodite demi-god from a church. The demiurge dies, and as punishment Encolpio becomes debilitated. We then tail them in search of a fix. The film is loosely based on the... book Satyricon by Gaius Petronius Arbiter, the "Arbiter of Dignity" in the court of Nero. The libretto has only survived in fragments, and the coat reflects this by being very fragmentary itself, sedate stopping in mid-ruling.
