Far and Away
Misconceived drama stars Kidman as the Irish girl eloping to America to start anew, with by her father's renter Sail disguised as her servant. Perversely watchable as Coast and Kidman make love and war, this features the most ludicrous liquidation (or not) scene ever committed to celluloid. While Kidman's effectuation is highly strung and Sail is good to look at, the characters not in the least have a endanger to take on a flavour beyond the straitjacket of the derivative hand. An improvement on the pair's whilom Days of Rumble, but still a long style from Kubrick's ennobled Eyes Wide of the mark Fence in.
Far and Away
Departing from his usual preoccupations and locales, André Téchiné explores the predicament of the would-be immigrant in this credible, but unfocused stage show. Yet, a surfeit of subplots distracts from the pre-eminent conjecture, which sees trucker Stéphane Rideau probable to smuggle Mohamed Hamaidi from Tangiers to Spain if he can effect a reconciliation with Rideau's estranged girlfriend, Lubna Azabal, a Jew whose filthy rich fellow-countryman wants her to forsake to Canada.
