Extremities
Mastrosimone's original play (adapted for the screen by the author) apparently enjoyed great success, with Susan Sarandon, then Karen Allen and latterly Fawcett on stage and then screen in the central role of the victim of an attempted rape. A woman is attacked and the assailant (Russo) knows where she lives. Left alone (bright friends she has) the woman is again menaced by the psycho and humiliated and attacked, but then she manages to get the upper hand. This unpleasant work is the kind of woman-in-jeopardy piece that Mel Dinelli used to write with skill and insight - qualities lacking in this shrill movie.
