Plot Summary:
|
Father Lankester Merrin thinks that he has glimpsed the pan of Evil. In the years following World War II, Merrin is relentlessly haunted alongside memories of the unspeakable brutality perpetrated against the innocent people of his parish during the War. In the wake of all the trepidation he has seen, both his faith in his fellow man and his faith in the Almighty own deserted him, and he can no longer honestly call himself a gazabo of Spirit. Merrin has traveled far from his native Holland in a wretched attack to essay to leave behind and get away all the depravity that he had witnessed there... . While currently in Cairo, Egypt, he is approached past a collector of rare antiquities and asked to participate in a British archeological excavation in the insignificant Turkana region of Kenya. They have unearthed something unparalleled and unconventional...a Christian Byzantine church dating from the 5th century, long before Christianity arrived in East Africa, and in inexplicably perfect condition--as if it had been buried immediately after it was completed. The collector wants Merrin, an Oxford-educated archeologist, to find an ancient relic concealed within the church to come the British find it. Interested, Merrin agrees to take the procedure. But beneath the church, something much older and malevolent sleeps, waiting to be awoken. When the archeologists start excavating, weird things begin occurring, and the local Turkana tribesmen who were hired to effectuate turn down to enter the spot. Things at most get worse, after all is said resulting in madness and death. Merrin watches helplessly as the atrocities of war are repeated against another virtuous village--atrocities he had hoped and prayed never to get again. The blood of innocents flows cleanly on the East African plane, but the horror has only ethical begun. In the remember where Evil was born, Merrin will finally experience its true face.

A film of mind-bending stupidity
Why why why why why why? Is hollywood so out of ideas that they have to churn out awful sequels and prequels and remakes and rubbish, desperate franchise 'versus' films (hang your heads in absolute shame, Alien Vs Predator, Freddie Vs Jason etc)?
Make no mistake, Exorcist - The Beginning is an absolute INSULT. An insult to you, the viewer, an insult to filmmaking, and an insult to all the other films, especially the original Exorcist film.
But you know what? You can't really blame the money-grabbing, intergrity-free filmmakers. I blame the people who go and see these films. They're the ones who fund it, and make future sequels and prequels worthwhile. I've a good mind to camp outside my local cinema on the next one's opening night with a shotgun and a ...
