Well directed and a creative storyline
This movie is 'based' on a true story. Amazing performances. Very convincing and frightening. Also not a typical horror movie of teenagers playing about then being killed by ghosts one by one in a haunted house. A must watch in your living room, in the dark if you want to get really frightened!
Exorcism of Emily Rose, The
Kevin CrustThe forces of good and evil wage a holier than thou battle for our attention in the hybrid thriller The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Inserting a dose of horror into a standard courtroom drama, writer-director Scott Derrickson and co-writer Paul Harris Boardman have constructed a well-cast yet dopey tale that is much less than the sum of its parts. It's certainly creepy, but not always in ways the filmmakers intended.
Laura Linney stars as Erin Bruner, a high-profile defense attorney hired by a Catholic archdiocese to defend Father Moore (Tom Wikinson), a priest accused of negligent homicide. The church, understandably not wanting to appear medieval, would prefer to make the case go away by having Moore plead out to the charge that the exorcism he performed on 1...
Exorcism of Emily Rose, The
Derek ElleySome genuine shocks punctuate The Exorcism of Emily Rose, an unusually intelligent genre item that manages to mix full-bore horror with courtroom drama. Anchored by a compelling performance from Laura Linney as an agnostic lawyer who takes on the defense of a Catholic priest accused of negligent homicide during an exorcism, pic may prove too talky and CGI-light to scare up devilish returns in today's mass market. But given the right chance, it could score with upscale genre fans of both sexes, especially overseas.
All clipped sentences and soignee power-dressing, Linney plays Erin Bruner, junior partner at a law firm run by Karl Gunderson (Colm Feore). Ambitious Erin is a rising star after getting a high-profile murderer off the hook; when Karl asks her tak...
Exorcism of Emily Rose, The
A hotshot barrister is brought in to defend a confessor accused of letting teenager Emily Rose lose one's life during an exorcism. Unexplainable thriller starring Laura Linney and Tom Wilkinson
A story of faith versus study played out as courtroom drama, The Exorcism Of Emily Rose was inspired by the inauspicious demise of Anneliese Michel, a unfledged German woman who died during an exorcism. It sounds the pitch for the sake of a histrionic TV flick picture show, but the material has a distinctly different experience to many of the generic horrors seen in recent years.
Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson and Campbell Scott all trade superb performances. Linney is all caustic frustrating as Bruner, a broad who has sacrificed her community life for her zoom a...
Exorcism of Emily Rose, The
Claudia PuigFashioning a compound of a courtroom play-acting and a horror sheet that is suspenseful and scary requires a clear vision and directorial skill. Rose lacks both. But the performances are topnotch. Laura Linney and Campbell Scott play dueling lawyers in the trial of a Catholic priest (Tom Wilkinson) charged with dereliction in the finish of a teenage bird (Jennifer Carpenter) who he believes is ridden beside a demon.
