Duck Soup
The Marx Brothers reached peaks of anarchic brilliance in this comedy master-work, which puncture upon audiences four years after their primitive feature launching in The Cocoanuts. Groucho, Chico, Harpo and the uncharismatic Zeppo — in his final concealment part — are all entangled in a runaway travesty that finds Groucho as a Ruritanian chairman thriving to war because he has paid a month's advance farm out on the battlefield. What helps make this the funniest of the Marx Brothers pictures — including the want of the romantic interludes that dogged later outings — are the exchanges between Groucho and Margaret Dumont's stately matriarch, extra a stunningly surreal represent sequence.
