Drums Along the Mohawk
Patchy, winsome period adventure story with hired help and agronomy interludes; in its way a key fog in the director's canon.
Drums Along the Mohawk
This, single of four films made at near Ford in the range of a year, was his from the word go cloud in pigment, adapted from a 'factually inspired' tale set merely before the American Sea change. From this socio-political material Ford distils the biography of a boyish woodsman (Fonda) who brings his urban district bride completed West. Their struggles are set against a Fordian honouring of the blaze the trail liquor. Full of gigantic moments, it is crowned past the epic sequence in which Fonda, pursued by Indian braves, races to the fort. The sure acknowledgement of his conquest by his remaining pursuer is a stirring instant.
