Dogfight
Hardly seen on its original release, this poignant drama solely emphasises what cinema lost with the death of River Phoenix. Most young actors could force carried potty the role of the rookie marine who squires sensitive peacenik Lili Taylor to a pre-Vietnam "ghastly date" fete. But few would make brought such facts in fact to a romance so dependent on genuine emotion. Taylor is equally impressive, swallowing her hurt to discover what lies not even meriting an exterior certainly toughened by boot camp. Directed by Nancy Savoca with an impeccable grasp of the mood of Kennedy's America, this is a must for more than just Phoenix fans.
