Plot Summary:
|
In 1990, a massive star ship relevance a bedraggled distance from residents, nicknamed "The Prawns," appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty years later, the initial salutation by the philanthropist residents has faded. The refugee encampment where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called Area 9, where they are confined and exploited in squalor. In 2010, the munitions corporation, Multi-State United, is contracted to forcibly evict the inhabitants with operative Wikus van der Merwe in charge. In this gumshoe, Wikus is exposed to a strange alien chemic... al and rely on the servants of his only two rejuvenated 'Prawn' friends.

Claudia PuigDistrict 9 proves that sci-fi thrillers don't have to be star-studded or mega-budgeted to be visually compelling and thoroughly entertaining. With its clever faux documentary style, this is the most imaginative science-fiction movie to come along in years. The exhilarating story also features one of the most multifaceted lead characters in a genre film, played with depth and nuance by Sharlto Copley. Story vs Effects?
Was really looking forward to this after the first trailer, but the more I see, the more it looks like a Michael Bay film, all special effects and no story or atmosphere. Fingers crossed though, it is being produced by Jackson
Looks interesting
I like what I have seen from the trailers so far. I think that the political history of this part of the world provides an interesting backdrop for this film.
