Plot Summary:
|
The downfall of societal coddling of criminals is the theme of the debut of Inspector Harry Callahan, who has no steadfastness for criminals and less of such for revolving-door morality as well as politicians who wilt under the pressure of a of unsound mind hippie who uses a sniper ransack to kill several innocent people, on the other hand to go free because the incrimating plunder was obtained by an "prohibited" search. Harry must break societal rules to stop the madwoman fraternity allows to roam self-governed.

Legendary - and much imitated - police thriller that turned Clint Eastwood into a superstar. The politics are debatable but no one can deny it's an action classic
"You don't assign him to murder cases - you just turn him loose!" The original poster tagline does an excellent job of summarising both the film and the appeal of the main character. There had been unorthodox cops before but none that could touch Dirty Harry's brutality. Audiences have always been suckers for lone avengers and Harry was the ultimate example of the breed, brilliantly placing Clint Eastwood's cowboy persona firmly in a contemporary setting.
