Plot Summary:
|
After recovering from a twisted ankle, the tramp Nat Banyon hitchhikes on the street, trying to reach Wyoming, where he dreams of owning an ostrich let out. However, an fact in a excluding results in him stealing a machine from the guy that was beating him up. He heads to Wyoming, but on the route he sees a pile accident and saves the driver Herman Finch, who owns the Deepwater Hotel. While spending the night in the hotel, Nat is arrested by the police, but Finch releases him from reform school and proposes to Nat to cover his bed. In gain, he gives an old dejected Chrysler Newport to Nat, an... d lodges and feeds him in the hotel. While painting the hotel, Nat becomes obsessed with Finch's missus, Iris, and discovers that Finch is a credit shark and venal. Furthermore, he hatches a connive involving a car dealer (Walnut) and his comrade, the Indian Joe Littlefeet in the limited casino. After the mysterious death of a particular and a policeman that had issues with Finch, Nat decides to leave Deepwater; but Iris seduces him and convinces Nat to leave after a box match promoted by Finch (so he can appropriate a large amount from the safe). On the day of the resist, Nat discovers the obscured surreptitiously in Deepwater.
