Plot Summary:
|
Steve (Matthew Broderick), suburban dad and Christmas enthusiast, finds a wrinkle in his well-spring-ordered existence with the new chum of his remodelled neighbor Danny (Danny DeVito). Danny has grown-up dreams and plans to illuminate his house with satisfactorily holiday lights to add up to it visible from blank. Not to be outdone, Steve declares a clash of anyone-upmanship with Danny that threatens to creep the Christmas spirit through the slush.

Deck the Halls
Sam AdamsLike a fatally snarled string of Christmas lights, Deck the Halls promises holiday cheer but delivers only frustration. These days, movies about the exasperating side of the holiday season, the suffocating shopping-mall hordes and concentrated family dysfunction, are more plentiful than those extolling its virtues. The Christmas spirit, whatever that might be, has been reduced to a third-act deus ex machina, a jolly cloud that descends from the heavens to save squabbling grinches from themselves.

Definately NOT on my Christmas list....
This is entertaining enough and has a few laughs, but the falling out with the neighbour / wife / family and BIG christmas make up idea makes for a completely cliched and tired story. This will be worth it only if the turkeys in and you are desparate for a diversion for an hour and a half. Otherwise give this a miss... you could guage how good it was, in our screening people of all ages were leaving half way through, and those that stayed were becoming fidgety. It's fun-ish but not uniquely entertaining for either kids or adults... Santa... give this the sack.
