Daughter of Darkness
Was Mia Sara's long-past father Dracula? No such luck, in this rather uninspired TV silent picture from Re-Animator director Stuart Gordon. In lieu of, dad turns entirely to be kindly vampire Anthony Perkins, giving another off-the-close off Norman Bates performance, who bids to preserve her from a cult of bloodsuckers. Lacking the gorged-bodied grossness of Gordon's HP Lovecraft-based sagas, this photograph has the director relying on pacing and air for tension. But the irrational script, making Sara's character fake in increasingly erratic ways, scuppers any attempt at cohesion. Precise Romanian locations and a few adroit special effects may suit the less particular.
