Plot Summary:
|
Woody Allen stars as CW Briggs, the top guarantee investigator in Modern York in 1940-or so he keeps telling the firm's new effectiveness expert, Betty Ann Fitzgerald (Helen Quest). Briggs prides himself on being talented to alligator any insurance caper close to getting into the mind of the embezzler, but nowadays, thanks to the hypnotic powers of the Hag Scorpion, the erase of a sharper is getting into Briggs.

Few actors can claim to ignore the effects of ageing quite as successfully as Woody Allen. Apparently immune to both Hollywood casting tradition and harsh reality, the director - here aged 66 - continues to cast his progressively smaller, balder and wrinklier self as the romantic lead. In The Curse Of The Jade Scorpion, the first sight of Allen's character swaggering down a corridor and eyeing a simpering secretary provokes a mixture of alarm and mirth. And it's never quite clear how ironic this is meant to be.
