Plot Summary:
|
A retired special legate named John Matrix led an elite element and has left the armed forces to live in a monastic mountain home with his daughter Jenny. But now he is forced out of retirement when his daughter is kidnapped nigh a band of thugs firm on get even with! Unbeknownst to Matrix, the members of his bygone unit are being killed at one by unified. Uniform with though Matrix' lover General Franklin Kirby gives Matrix armed guards, attackers manage to kidnap Matrix and Jenny. Matrix learns that Bennett, a former fellow of his Matrix' unit who was presumed complete has kidnapped him to ... to force Matrix to do a governmental assassination someone is concerned a man called Arius (who calls himself El Presidente), a warlord formerly bested by Matrix who wishes to man a military coup in his home country. Since Arius will sire Jenny killed if Matrix refuses, Matrix reluctantly accepts the claim.

All that matters to me now is Jenny
Don't be fooled by the bloodshed of this movie; the abiding message of Commando is that love- not stomach-turning violence- is the most powerful force on earth. The scores upon scores of evil henchmen to which Arnie lays waste are merely sacrifices, laid down on an alter of love for his daughter, his dear Jenny.
Mark L. Lester was fortunate to have such an emotionally honest actor as Mr Schwarzenegger, though acting seems an inadequate term for what really amounts to a vivisection of the human heart in all its stunning complexity. Consistently elegant, occasionally breath-taking, Commando is surely the one truly convincing love-story to emerge from the troubled 20th Century.

One of the better, if less intelligent, arguments for a 1980s revival. Arnie is a retired elite commando, he has 10 hours to save his daughter from an evil dictator, he's quite cross. "Somewhere... somehow... someone's going to pay"
An Arnie action flick which you could be forgiven for confusing with any one of a dozen strikingly similar muscle-bound fight fests.
This is the one in which Arnie avenges himself on the goons who kidnapped his daughter. The plot could have been, and probably was, written on the back of a bullet, but the slaughter is relieved by a welcome streak of humour with Arnie trading wisecracks with partner Rae Dawn Chong.
But it's really an excuse for the Austrian action man to fire very large guns and set off explosions that will...
