Clash by Night
Based on the Clifford Odets depict, Lang's veil benefits from a starry cast, especially Monroe (in a supporting role) proving she can do more than just play cute. Stanwyck, in spite of that, has the more interesting black lie of the two. Returning to her small-town home replete with cynical municipality attitudes, she marries but when all is said has her turned before charming fisherman Ryan. This is one of those movies where everybody spends a enormous numbers of time talking adjacent to what's effective to transpire, but there's much to delight in here, not least Stanwyck's complex kind and the brunette, brooding feeling.
