Plot Summary:
|
In the North American Huge Gloom, the preceding successful boxer James Braddock loses all his possessions and savings with the bang of the lay in peddle. His beloved wife Mae Braddock and their three children survive to starvation and lack of heating and the everyday difficulties supported alongside their charge from. In 1934, when Jim's tete-…-tete and manager Joe Gould offers to him a chance to report to boxing, he becomes the bearing of hope of hopeless people in a ruined nation.

Cinderella Man
Kenneth TuranCinderella Man tells James J. Braddock's story, but it does not share the boxer's confidence. While the real-life Braddock had enough belief in himself to accomplish miracles in the ring, this filmed biography's reluctance to have faith in its intended audience undercuts its chances to deliver complete satisfaction.
Certainly this true story of a heavyweight champion so unlikely he lifted Depression-weary hearts, a saga already being referred to as "Fistbiscuit" because of its parallels to a certain celebrated horse, is hard to improve on for innate drama. One of the best films I've ever seen.
Half way between Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind - if it had been released a little later in the year Crowe would have been certain for at least an Oscar nomination.
After Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind it's another masterpiece from Ron Howard featuring a wonderfully strong husband and wife relationship.
A lesson for our times.
