Plot Summary:
|
48 hours in the life of a burnt-ended paramedic. On one occasion called Father Frank owing his efforts to rescue lives, On the level sees the ghosts of those he failed to save around every shape. He has tried caboodle he can to get fired, career in sick, delaying taking calls where he might have to repute joined more victim he couldn't remedy, yet cannot quit the job on his own.

Bringing Out the Dead
No surprise that this Schrader-scripted (from a novel) movie, directed by Scorsese at full power, is frenetic and grim. The central character Frank (Cage) is a paramedic on endless night-duty in the New York City streets. He's cruising not in a taxi and without guns, but still likely to snap. Frank and his pals are out in all weathers at all hours and the problem has to be resolved or chaos beckons. A frankly disturbing experience since Cage is at his most manic, the images are brutal, the documentary-style background intense and the (inevitable) theme of redemption a long time emerging.
Cleaning Up NYC
I heard a lot of negative publicity about this film which reunited the director and writer of "Taxi Driver".
I settled down preparing myself for something average and instead I got a complete treat.
Nicholas Cage plays a New York ambulance driver who is slowly cracking up under the strain of his job. The film shows the city through his eyes.
So far, it sounds like just a re-run of "Taxi Driver", only "Bringing Out The Dead" is fill to the brim with the kind of jet-black humour that made "Fight Club" such a riot. Add to that some fantastic cinematography and a riotous soundtrack (high speed, drug-fueled ambulance driving scored by The Clash) and you've got what I think is a complete blast of a film.
