Bridget Jones's Diary
The Four Weddings And A Funeral writing/producing team work their magic on Helen Fielding's thirtysomething angsty comic novel. Renée Zellweger stars alongside Colin Firth and Hugh Grant
It could have gone horribly wrong: an adaptation of a self-deprecating, wryly comic, very British diary could easily have become a glossed-up, watered-down export vehicle starring a size eight yank. As it is, the American in question (Zellweger) can do a passable English accent, possesses quality comic timing and is (in this film, anyway) 12 stone and distinctly ordinary looking. Add to that the talented team behind Four Weddings And A Funeral, a tight script and an abundance of fine actors, and you've got an enjoyable romantic comedy with both bite and believability.
Bridget Jones's Review
A super comedy flick with an excellent British cast complementing Renee Zellweger in the title role. She really pulls off a great British accent and the film is both funny and touching in equal measures. The only thing is Bridget Jones is clearly sexy, smart and funny in this film (not sure about the book) so personally I found it difficult to see her as a lonely singleton, but that is really a minor in this cracking comedy.
Um...
What exactly is so good about this pic? I actually can't work it out.
