Breakdown
Unsettling tale of roadside abduction starring Kurt Russell, Kathleen Quinlan and a terrifying JT Walsh
When townie Jeff Taylor (Russell) and his wife Amy (Quinlan) break down in their Jeep in the middle of nowhere, the smart thing to do seems to be to have Jeff go on ahead to fetch help with trucker 'Warren' (Walsh), who happens to be passing by. However, when Russell manages to fix the Jeep and catches up with Warren, he denies having ever seen his wife.
Russell's frantic search for her raises memories of The Vanishing, Blood Simple and a touch of Duel, but director Mostow manages to extract enough tension from his material to make this a thoroughly enjoyable thriller with a fine, menacing performance from Walsh.

The build-up is really gradual, with only a few hints of hostility and weirdness which add to the mystery of what happens later. Kurt Russel is really good - it's not his usual brawny role, on the contrary, he comes across as quite an ineffectual and weedy city type, dressed in chinos and polo shirts while cruising in his Air conditiond SUV. It...
