A plot that leaves you thinking 'what?'
Not a bad little effort this one, although the trailers lead you to believe this is something it is not. From the previews I thought this would be a revenge/redemption type plot but instead it seems drawn out (at over 2 hours it is slightly butt-numbing after 30mins of ads at the start). It is interesting though, DiCaprio resumes his bad ass type role we saw in Blood Diamond. Something he's nailed down to an art. There are some unflattering shots of Russel Crowe who is looking his age a bit. The two of them string the piece together quite well. The only thing that would stop me renting this or watching it again is how epic and harrowing it is. A couple of scenes definitely not for the squeamish.
All in all: ok
Body of Lies

The skill of top-flight director Ridley Scott and his veteran production team, not to mention the ability of stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe, ensure that this story of spies and terrorism in the Middle East is always crisp and watchable. But as the film's episodic story gradually reveals itself, it ends up too unconvincing and conventional to consistently hold our attention.
That is a shame, because Scott and company, including cinematographer Alexander Witt, production designer Arthur Max and two-time Oscar-winning editor Pietro Scalia, have done several things well in telling...
Body of Lies
An ageing CIA agent and his young counterpart have very different approaches to cracking the current terrorism crisis. Middle Eastern espionage thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe, and produced and directed by Ridley Scott
Body Of Lies is based on a novel by David Ignatius, a 'Washington Post' journalist specialising in Middle East affairs and the CIA. A regular on the American TV news circuit, he used his understanding of these areas as the basis for the best-selling 'Body Of Lies'. A thick tome in every sense of the word, Ignatius' book is a sub-Tom Clancy affair where the authentic background provides the basis for a pretty pulpy tale. Entertaining if far from nourishing, it's no surprise that Ignatius's novel has been adapted fo...
