Blades of Glory
Claudia PuigIt's a funny concept that doesn't go much beyond the initial idea: A pair of figure skaters team up to form the first male skating pair. Will Ferrell plays Chazz, a dim-witted he-man dubbed "sex on ice." Jon Heder is Jimmy, a bubble-headed bleached blond who dresses in pastels and clutches stuffed animals.
Given the level of glitter and glitz in the sport, the visual gags involving these two less-than-graceful men in sequined leotards are the more comical scenes.
Though a comedy of this kind can be flat-out silly, it still has to have a coherent story to be truly clever and funny. Think Zoolander and the world of male models. This wan scenario isn't worth much more than a 10-minute sketch on Saturday Night Live or Mad TV.

Thankfully More Bolero than Dancing on Ice
Lets face it - you'll probably know if you'll like this film just from the poster and trailer. The paper thin plot involves Will Farrell and Jon Heders' characters being banned from men's ice skating following a punchup on the medal podium. In an attempt to get back into the competitive world of ice skating the pair discover a loophole which allows them to compete as the first ever all male ice dance pair.
Personally I enjoyed the movie, though not quite at the laugh out loud level o...
Blades of Glory
Kevin Crust Based on the number of prominent cameos by figure skating royalty in the pas de deux comedy Blades of Glory, the world of toe loops, double axels and triple lutzes has a pretty good sense of humor. And that's a good thing because the movie, which stars Will Ferrell and Jon Heder as rival skaters forced to team up, leaves no sacred cow or salchow untipped (although it appears to be devoid of Dick Button references).
Olympic champions Scott Hamilton, Dorothy Hamill, Peggy Fleming and Brian Boitano, among other skating luminaries, lend a degree of contrasting verisimilitude to the otherwise farcical proceedings that include a terrifically macabre variation on the death spiral. Blades is an often hysterical parody as long as bodies are in motion, nailing the ...
