not as bad as they're making out
I read the reviews here before I watched the movie and was thoroughly expecting a turnip...however, I wanted to know just how bad a film could be with such an excellent cast and interesting premise. The answer is - not bad at all. In fact, its surprisingly good. I think that the reviewers here are probably biased by the original series, or thinking too hard about the effect that magic could have on the world (?!), whereas I've only seen a couple of the original series and its been years since that happened. The cast of this film are perfect, Nicole Kidman shines as the lead and Will Ferrell is excellent as usual. My only complaint with the film is that the characters played by Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine aren't concentrated on enough - so at the end it leaves you with q...
Bewitched
Carina ChocanoBewitched, which was directed by Nora Ephron and co-written with her sister, Delia, isn't a remake, really. It's a "reimagining," which is a sparkly word for what happens to a beloved TV hit of yesteryear when it's cannibalized by committee.
The movie, which spent more than a decade in development, stars Will Ferrell as Jack Wyatt, a fading movie star who takes a job playing Darrin on a TV remake of the original show; and Nicole Kidman as Isabel Bigelow, the unknown, Valley-dwelling nonactress Jack hires to play Samantha. The twist: Isabel is a real-life witch on the hunt for a needy male mortal, which, frankly, beggars credulity. Who's going to buy Nicole Kidman as an unknown nonactress living in the Valley?
Maybe the biggest surprise abou...
Bewitched
A witch lands the lead role in a TV remake of Bewitched, but how will her co-star and love interest react when he finds out she's the real deal? Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell star and Nora Ephron directs
Every fourth film to come out of Hollywood seems to be a remake of some old TV series, so it was inevitable they would eventually get around to the oft-rerun 1960s series 'Bewitched'. It's a show remembered probably with more affection by most international viewers than, say, 'The Dukes Of Hazzard' or 'The Honeymooners' (which have also been given the movie treatment).
The problem is the old-school sexual politics of the original series - which saw witch Samantha (the incomparable Elizabeth Montgomery) struggling to foreswear magic to please her husband Da...
