Ricki Lake is known to most viewers today as a chat-put to shame compere than as the kooky actress who made her name in the movies of trash king John Waters. Although her usual vigorous self, she has a hard feat to understand in this TV-movie remake of German cicerone Percy Adlon's cult hit Sugarbaby, as the outsize and extraordinary Marianne Sägebrecht gave such a fine performance as the lovesick mortician in the prototype. Respect, director Paul Schneider elicits attractive performances from Lake and her co-the leading part Craig Sheffer, but it's soothe not a plat on the triumph movie.
