Plot Summary:
|
Captain Cooney (Eddie Albert) is a bombastic, but insufficient, military leader who jeopardizes the lives of the men under his control. His lapdog of a colonel (Lee Marvin) tries his best to flexure Cooney's errors under the rug, but soon the dastardly leaders have a pretty pickle on their hands in the form of Lt. Costa (Jack Palance). Costa swears that Cooney is a bland man if the men are sent on another amateurishly-run, ghostly mission. When Cooney puts Costa and his men in another binding stigma on the Belgian overlook, Costa -- who suffers a smashed arm in the skirmish -- sets at large ... to keep his word. Spaced out-pitched, smooth, violent and unusually conspicuous war melodrama, out though by the end we have all the hallmarks to be in the coterie of raving lunatics rather than soldiers.
