David Fincher is haunted to this day of the shoot for this film. The studio rode him like a steed. He was never going to beat James Camerons or Ridley Scotts movies but at least the studio could have stood by him. Instead they cut half the movie kept him from using a visual fx unit. Circumvented his authority with the cast and crew and generally made life unpleasant for him.

The movie makes some sense but a directors cut out there i hear makes a lot more sense. For example.. How many aliens were in the escape pod and how the fire was started in the first place messes with the continuity of the movie. You could say the movie starts off on shaky ground.

But as a fan i must say killing off Hicks and Newt before the credits rolled turned me against the film in a hurry. It's ballsy no doubt but if ever there was a cinematic equivalent of committing suicide by 1000 cuts Alien 3 is exhibit A. Alien 3 is insurmountably depressing for two hours and the ending is the worst.
