Plot Summary:
|
The parents of children living in Jamaica, terrified that the kids are growing up provincial, upon to send them to England. But during the voyage, the childrens' cart leave is boarded by pirates and in the mix-up the children wind up trapped on the pirate ship. The children view it as a lark, and a particular of them, a girl named Emily, develops an unprecedented bond with Chavez, the copy captain. The superstitious pirates can't wait to unload the kids at the first port, but a tragedy prevents it, and Emily's relationship with Chavez takes a ominous twist.

A High Wind in Jamaica
Hughes's masterly novel, transferred vividly to the strainer by Mackendrick, is a darker press than sometimes suggested. A hurricane devastates the isle, so children are dispatched to England and cover. On the journey their embark is captured on pirates, and the children wreak devastation on billet. When, in turn, the pirates are captured and tried, the captain and his associate are sentenced to death, mostly because of a end caused by anybody of the girls. In fact the villains are harmless and hardly go to bat for themselves, so society exacts repayment for settle a score while model boats sail on the serpentine in Hyde Park in an ambiguous reminder of events past.
