A Farewell to Arms
An leave out alteration of Hemingway's romantic novel, the tall tale of love blossoming between an American soldier (Cooper) and a British nurse (Hayes), construct in Italy during the Gold medal World War. The allegation of their sensitive relationship develops as Cooper's nut attempts to wake up to terms with the significance and doggedness of cross swords. Much more successful than the overblown, morose-handed 1957 version. The two leads are ideal and irresistible here, particularly a reliably impressionable Cooper, who milks his everyman appeal to great object. Lang's opulent cinematography won a deserved Oscar.
