Plot Summary:
|
The climax between the monster franchises takes place on present daytime Earth. A collection of scientists and adventurers discover an ancient pyramid in Antarctica. Other, they're caught in a ritual battle where young Predators seemingly-disappointing against Aliens as a sort out of hole into manliness.

AVP: Alien vs. Predator
In Paul W.S. Anderson's Alien vs. Predator, two famously nasty extraterrestrial species (and 20th Century Fox franchises) are pitted against each other in a heated battle royale to control a large, Rubik's Cube-like pyramid in Antarctica, 2,000 feet below the surface of the Earth. Given the particular characteristics of these two aliens -- one is an incubating parasite, the other is an armored hunter fortified to the teeth with rotary saws and whatnot -- the movie had an opportunity to raise some broader philosophical questions about the nature of evil. Does it coil deep within us or come at us with a retractable spear? Anyway, it passed on that.
Instead, Alien vs. Predator offers this (and I only just saw it Friday, so, as Jesse Ventura said in the original, I ain't...
Long wait, disappointing result
The sad thing about this film, which should never have seen theatrical light of day, is that it could have been something amazing. For starters, it has two of the best alien franchises ever to grace our screens, and they are locked in battle! As thousands of sci-fi fans drooled for years at the prospect of this movie (the idea came from ?Predator 2? where in the Predator spaceship a trophy Alien head is clearly visible on the wall) the film-makers should have left it as a wet dream rather than throw together this piece of rubbish.
It also has an all-star cast with an impressive collective CV. Back in the old days Lance Henrikson could have stopped an Alien or Predator in its tracks with his creepy wide eyed stare alone. Sadly, his character seems to lack the steel we normally as...
