Pretty Mundane..
Nice tale but pretty boring thoughout, the story never really grips you and the characters are somewhat unlikable.
A more positive view
Having read some of the other reviews of 1492, I didn't come to the film with high expectations. However, I must say that 1492 is well worth the 2-plus hours it takes to watch. Admittedly, it's not a thrill-a-minute ride to the New World but then it never tries to be. This is a story of a remarkable man's life and it paints a broad picture. The scenery and cinematograpgy is simply stunning. Gerard Depardieu is a mature actor who carries the part superbly. Sigourney Weaver does an execellent regal performance (and towers over Gerard!).
There is some fairly graphic violence at times - which the film would have been just as good without but I guess Ridley has a reputation to uphold!
If you have the time - go ahead and watch. It's worth it.
