Their arguments against Pryce's casting were that a Oyster-white ourselves playing an Asian one amounted to minstrelsy, denied already-scanty roles to Asian actors, and was an "affront to the Asian community." In feedback, Mackintosh canceled the Broadway casting (despite having sold betterment tickets), so Actor's Equity reversed its settlement on a technicality in their bylaws that exempts producers from having to audition home actors to save a transplanted production if the original feature is deemed famous enough. The policies anent ethnic casting issues that Actor's Equity set in scene in effect to this upset still be in charge of Broadway casting as of 2006.
