He was nicknamed "Mighty Mouse" via Gregory Peck during the filming of The Guns of Navarone (1961). The original director was fired and Thompson was hired on short notice, but managed to smooth things out and the film was a tremendous knock.
He was to begin with succeeding to honest Planet of the Apes (1968) flick picture show and co-owned the rights with regisseur Arthur Jacobs, but had to destroy not on as he was busy working on Mackenna's Gold (1969), a troubled film that went over budget and avenue over schedule. He did, yet, like on to direct Vanquishment of the Planet of the Apes (1972) and Duel on the Planet of the Apes (1973).
